URI

Upper Respiratory Infection(URI)
An upper respiratory infection (URI) affects the nasal passages and throat. It’s a common condition caused by viruses. Here are some key points about URIs:
         Symptoms:
  • Cough: A persistent cough is a common symptom.
  • Excess Mucus: You might experience increased mucus production.
  • Sore Throat: Throat discomfort is typical.
  • Runny Nose: Nasal congestion and a runny nose are common.
  • Fever: Some URIs may cause mild fever.
       Treatment:
URIs usually resolve on their own within 7–10 days.
Medications cannot cure URIs, but your healthcare provider may recommend certain medicines to relieve symptoms.
Rest, hydration, and over-the-counter pain relievers can help manage discomfort.
Most upper respiratory infections (URIs) are caused by viruses, so antibiotics are not effective for treating them. However, there are other approaches to manage the symptoms of a URI:
Pain Relievers and Rest:
  • Over-the-counter pain relievers like acetaminophen (Tylenol) can help reduce fever and body aches.
  • Rest is essential to allow your body to recover.
Nasal Decongestants and Antihistamines:
  • Nasal decongestants can relieve nasal congestion.
  • Antihistamines help clear nasal blocks and provide temporary relief.
Stay Hydrated: Drink plenty of fluids to keep your throat moist and help thin mucus.
Rest: Allow your body to recover by getting enough rest. Resting helps your immune system fight off the infection.
